2023 Summit

Mission:

The 4th Annual Healthcare Distance Simulation Research Summit will focus on scholarship to date and furthering the specific projects and ideas developed during the first three summits by bringing interested simulation practitioners from all levels of experience to generate actionable plans.

Objectives:

  1. Connect the global distance simulation community, with scholars of diverse backgrounds and experience, in the ongoing work of the Healthcare Distance Simulation Collaborative

  2. Engage in discourse about established research trajectories, reaching consensus and advancing the science of distance simulation in meaningful ways

  3. Garner commitment from established and potential distance simulation scholars, leaders, and mentors, allowing for expansion and exploration of new and ongoing research priorities

  4. Produce scholarly output for dissemination

Track Descriptions

Assessment & Evaluation Track: The Assessment & Evaluation Track is focused on the production of high-quality scholarship through valid and reliable assessment and evaluation of distance simulation environments and learner outcomes.

Faculty Development Track: The Faculty Development Track is focused on further exploring the 4 domains described in the Healthcare Distance Simulation Guidelines and how these domains translate into a tangible product (e.g. training) that serves the community of interest.

Human Factors Track: Utilizing the framework of a task analysis from Human Factors, this session will focus on exploring how the distance simulation environment can be optimized for both the instructor and learner.

Pictography/Visual Communication Track: The Pictography/Visual Communication Track is focused on constructing a “Pictionary” to complement the simulation dictionary by identifying universal icons, pictures, emojis, etc. for the global simulation community to use in academic reporting.

Psychological Safety Track: The Psychological Safety Track is focused on the production of high-quality scholarship aimed at better understanding the factors that contribute to psychological safety in distance simulation environments.
